Marge is an accomplished consultant/presenter with over 35 years experience teaching reading and writing strategies to children and adults.
At the local level, she has taught language arts to middle and high school students in both rural and suburban settings. She also has taught courses on cooperative learning, active student engagement, and literacy in several area colleges and universities. She currently provides workshops and consultant services to schools as a certified trainer for Project CRISS
At the state level, Marge served for more than13 years on the IGAP/ISAT reading and writing validation teams. She developed items for the reading assessment and piloted items for the writing assessment. She helped develop ISAT scoring rubrics for both reading and writing and has conducted ISAT workshops statewide. She served as regional coordinator for Reading First and recently as area liaison for National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Marge has been a contributing author to the following statewide publications: Common threads; Write On, Illinois! Vol. 1 and II; and Continuing to Meet the Challenge professional development series.
On a national level, Marge has presented at several International Reading Association and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development conferences. She provided items to Oregon for their state writing assessment. She is an academy graduate of the National Staff Development Council, having completed a 2 year program of advanced facilitation and consultant skills.
Her recent collaboration through Project CRISS and Yorkville Middle School appears on the Illinois School Board Association webpage and the Project CRISS national newsletter.
Marge Gallagher has a Bachelor of Science from Illinois State University and an Master of Science from Governor’s State University. She is a certified Reading Specialist.
Marge’s motivation is to engage learners through reflection and hands-on, relevant experiences.
