Overview

In the state of Illinois, education professionals are required to renew their certificates with the state on a regular basis (every four years for those who are on Initial certificates, and every five years for
others.) This serves several purposes, including ensuring that educators remain actively involved in professional development activities.

In addition to renewal with the state, education professionals are required to keep their certificates
registered with the Regional Office of Education in the county in which they work (or in which they
live if not currently employed as an educator).

Administrative Certificate Renewal and Registration

This section is designed for anyone who has earned a Type 75 Administrative Certificate. You will
want to follow this link even if you are not actively using your Administrative Certificate.

Standard Teaching Certificate Renewal and Registration

This section is designed for anyone who has a Standard or Master Certificate of one of the following
types:

Type 04 - Early Childhood Education
Type 03 - Elementary Education
Type 09 - Secondary Education
Type 10 - Special

Initial Teaching Certificate Renewal and Registration (Moving from Initial to Standard)

This section is designed for anyone who has an Initial Certificate of one of the following types:

Type 04 - Early Childhood Education
Type 03 - Elementary Education
Type 09 - Secondary Education
Type 10 - Special

It will cover both those who need to renew their Initial Certificates, as well as those who are ready to
convert their Initial Certificate to a Standard Certificate.
