Danielson 3b and 2d

This seminar is designed to examine and plan effectively for how to manage student behavior in your classroom. Taking a closer look at understanding the requirements of 2d in the teacher evaluation framework, we will look to increase your own understanding of classroom management, as well as add some tools to your toolbelt on effectively dealing with classroom management. The elements of managing student behavior: setting expectations; monitoring student behavior; and responding to student behavior, can be some of the most challenging aspects of education. Feeling comfortable in classroom management is key to both student and teacher success. Effective classroom management does not just happen, but instead, comes through careful planning. In this course we will review best practices for classroom management by setting expectations for behavior, as well as establishing a plan for both the monitoring and addressing of student behavior. A more positive and productive learning environment starts with effective classroom management.

This seminar was developed to explore Danielsonís evaluation framework around questioning and discussions. Successful classrooms show us that questioning and discussions play a role in learning. Asking the right questions, at the right time, and of the right students, requires planning. Starting, guiding, extending, or ending discussion also requires careful planning on the part of the teacher. It is not by happenstance that 3b is one of the most closely evaluated components under Domain 3 Instruction. Teacher use of effective questioning and discussion, along with communication, engagement, and assessment, are at the heart of where effective teaching and learning takes place. In this seminar we will deepen our understanding of the elements of this component which include the quality of questions or prompts; discussion techniques; and student participation, thereby broadening our ability to increase their effectiveness in our classrooms.
