A cohort is a group of people who join together to accomplish a specific goal .
In the educational milieu, a cohort groups students with similar interests into the same program of study. Their common goal is to attain a Master's Degree. Though the number of students may vary from program to program, the norm is usually 12-18 students.
This format allows for the group to coalesce and formulate strong relationships. By nature learning is team-based and, concomitantly, enhances the overall educational experience. Teachers can then take the knowledge and interpersonal skills they have learned back to their individual workplaces. Ultimately, the students they teach reap the benefits of more effective teaching.
